Here at Mystery Hill, we understand that despite your best efforts, family vacations can end up being disappointing, whether due to an underwhelming destination, poor planning, or simple bad luck. Our team wants to help you get more out of your next family trip, and to do that we have put together the following list of tips on how to do so.
- Choose Engaging Activities and Destinations- One complaint that many kids make about family vacations is that they are boring. While it’s easy to dismiss this as mere whining, try to look at it from the child’s point of view–to the parents, a visit to a place like the Lincoln Memorial (to name one example) is an educational experience, but to the kids the memorial is just a statue. Instead of trying to hit all the must-see destinations, we recommend looking for places that are relevant to your kids’ interests.
- Involve Your Kids in the Planning- An even more effective way to make your family vacations more enjoyable is to involve your kids in the planning process. While you obviously can’t stop at every place that catches their interest, letting your children pick a place to visit will keep them engaged in the activity, and in the trip as a whole.
- Take Time to Decompress- Lastly, many family vacations turn from fun to frustrating because of a lack of time to relax and decompress between activities. While you’re planning each day of your vacation, make sure to build in some open time when you won’t have to rush to the next thing, and can instead take a minute to just chill out.
