HomeAttractions, Blowing Rock, NC1903 Dougherty House Museum

Dauphin Disco Dougherty built this house in 1903 and it was the first home in the area to have electricity and running water. Dougherty founded Appalachian State Univeristy in this home, and it housed classrooms and administration offices during the early years. The home is being restored to its original 1903 condition with the help of donations by the community. Guests can tour the home, which is filled with turn-of-the-century furniture, antiques and memorabilia. It truly is an amazing snapshot of life in Appalachia during the early 1900s.

The Dougherty House also hosts An Appalachian Christmas, with a visit from Santa and Mrs Clauhs each holiday season. And from time to time you’ll catch firestarting demonstrations and more!
